A standing forest is a productive forest
In northwestern Mato Grosso, the Amazon forest has supported the work of traditional riverside communities for generations. Resin and latex are harvested from living trees: the tree stays standing and keeps producing.
The cooperative acts as the commercial bridge between this production and industrial buyers. Consolidating production, identifying its origin and negotiating as a single counterparty is the same role the cooperative plays for its members' coffee and food products.
Extraction is one of the areas of activity set out in the cooperative's Bylaws, alongside reforestation, bioenergy and agriculture.
When the forest earns an income standing, it is worth more standing.
